ECOSYSTEMS

1. Definition and Components of an Ecosystem.

An ECOSYSTEM is a community of living beings that interact with each other and their habitat. We can find ecosystems in the part of planet Earth called biosphere.
Many similar ecosystems throughout the world grouped together are called a BIOME.

     Parts of the BIOSPHERE:

     -Ecosphere: plants, animals, fungi,...
     -Lithosphere: rocks and soil
     -Atmosphere: air and wind, temperature,...
     -Hydrosphere: water (rivers, seas,...)

*HABITAT:  The area or place where a living being normally lives.
*POPULATION: A group of living beings of one species that live in the same place at                     the same time.
*COMMUNITY: A group of different populations living in the same place at the same                     time.
COMPONENTS of an ECOSYSTEM
1- BIOCENOSIS or BIOTIC COMPONENTS:  they are the living things, the five kingdoms (animals, plants, monera, fungi and protists).
2-   BIOTOPE or ABIOTIC COMPONENTS:
they are the non-living things (rocks, soil, temperature, water, air,...).

Abiotic components are parts of an ecosystem that consist of non-living factors surrounding the organisms. Abiotic components include sunlight, air, water and temperature.
